About Our Soaps

Each and every item we make is carefully planned and researched, formulated, produced, and packaged with healthy wholesomeness in mind. We use

  • organic base oils whenever possible
  • filtered rainwater or melted snow
  • organic, pure essential oils from only the most reputable sources
  • herbs from our garden, or (if they don't tolerate our Wisconsin winters) we purchase organic cultivated or wildcrafted herbs

We NEVER use synthetic fragrance oils. And our products are not artificially colored either—any color comes from the oils or natural botanicals. And you won’t find any parabens, sodium lauryl or laureth sulfates, phthalates, hardeners, foaming agents, EDTA, propylene glycol or petroleum-based ingredients.  Just honest-to-goodness organic, natural stuff!

Affordable prices make good products available to ordinary people. That’s why, although we use some costly ingredients, we strive to keep our prices reasonable. We want everyone to be able to use our products!

We use several different processes in making our soaps. Each of them depends on the saponification of oils (the combination of sodium hydroxide with water and oil) to produce a true soap. We use both the “hot process” and “cold process” methods. In addition, we hand mill some of our soap, which allows us to add pure oils (non-saponified), herbs, flowers, hydrosols and essential oils, without altering their properties.

Our rainwater soaps especially focus on traditional methods and ingredients:
a slow cold-process curing,
a rainwater base,
traditional oils,
heirloom herbs, botanicals, and essential oils.

Other specialty soaps incorporate oils and additives traditionally recognized for their special properties: soothing, healing, moisturizing, cleansing, protecting, restoring, etc.

Soap scents (essential oils and herbs) are chosen for their particular properties: aroma therapeutic characteristics, health promoting qualities, botanical insect deterrents, and many are “just for fun".
